Zheng Fu – lyrics English translation.

The winning performance of Shila has attracted much attention to the song Zheng Fu (征服) by Na Ying (那英) among the non-mandarin-speaking community in Malaysia. Some of the comments on Youtube are asking for the meaning of the lyrics. So here it is. Tried to post on Youtube but character limit prevents everything to be posted. My English is not really good, but the following should be better than google-translated. Still, my translation fails to convey even 50% of what the lyric wants to bring out.

Finally, you’ve found a way to decide who wins

The consequence.. both of us are deeply hurt

You look fine, but your heart… broken countless times

I won’t give up, and become the captive of war (of love)

*Chorus started
Just like this, you have won over me

There’s no retreat (for me)
There’s no turning back (for me)

My heart is firm (but) my decision is careless

Just like this, you have won over me

(I) drink down the poison you prepared (for me)

My story has ended

My love and hatred burried
*Chorus ended

Finally, I understand what we both wanted… is an end.

All explanations look like excuses

Lit a fire and burn up all presents that you gave me

Still, it couldn’t relieve me from my rage

Repeat the chorus once…

If you walk pass my grave

You may clasp you hands and pray for me

Repeat the chorus multiple times…

Thank you so much for this. It’s good enough for me. Shila’s performance make me cry everytime I hear the song… and now I cry even harder knowing the actual lyric! I love it…

      Hi rue,
This is indeed a very touching song. How I wish I could really convey the true meaning (and emotion) of the lyrics to you all. But my English is just not good enough…

hi it’s me again….you are being so humble about your english capability ya…i think your english is more than good , it is perfect.
i guess if zheng fu is made into a movie then we can know how deep the real meaning of the lyrics. nevertheless the song really touches me . any parting is painful especially from the one you really love. god bless you, take care.

thanks for the lyrics, i fell in love with this song after hearing Shila’s version 🙂 i’ve listened to real version as well, still a good song. mind you, if i’m not mistaken, shouldn’t ‘retreat’ in the 2nd line of the chorus be “turning back”, coz its the same meaning with retreat, then it should read “There’s no turning back”, still the same i suppose 🙂 but then, it’s just an opinion, i don’t know how to read chinese 🙂

      Hi hansuke,
Very true, “There’s no turning back” could be a better translation. I’ve updated the lyrics above. Thanks.

You have finally found a way to decide who the winner is
The price of this victory is that both of us are shattered into pieces
You who from outward look perfectly fine have a heart with countless wounds
Me who is strong becomes the captive of this battle
Just like this I am conquered by you
there is no turning back for me anymore
my heart is firm yet my decision is hasty
just like this I am conquered by you
I finish the poison you have prepared
    And my story have ended
My love and hatred have been buried
I finally understand what the two of us want is to end this
All explanations are perceived by each other as (ill) intentions
I lit the fire and burnt all gifts you had given me
    (repeat chorus)
If you pass by my graveyard
please clasp your hands and pray for me
